Not Bread Alone

Bread alone will
Not satisfy.
Have you ever
Wondered why?

There is a deep-seated
Need in a man’s soul
To feel that he is whole.

He can only find
Inherent contentment in Christ,
But most men never go there.
They can be joint heirs, but
They never turn to the Master
Who has all of life’s answers.

Every man has this
Imperative requirement
Ingrained in his brain,
But few admit it.

There is a
Powerful potency
In God’s words.
Holy Scripture is like a sword.
It slashes and splits;
It slices and slits
All human issues
To the core of the heart.

Christ is the living Word.
Now you have heard.
Is the gist of your being stirred?

“…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4 (KJV)

Nothing Can Separate Us

God strengthens believers;

We can overcome the deceiver

By our faith in Christ.

God is not dead;

Get that through your head.

He is with you in real time;

He cleanses away the grime –

The crud, the filth, the muck of sin.

You can start all over again

Every day when you pray.

Nothing can separate us,

So why make a fuss?

He loves you today;

He’ll love you tomorrow.

He made you out of clay.

He expects you to love him always;

Don’t let sin get in the way.

Even if you want to,

You can’t keep God’s love away.

Death can’t. Life can’t.  Men can’t.

Angels can’t. Demons can’t.

Isn’t this great news?

So why feel blue?

I have trusted him;

How about you?

Remember, Christ is seated

At the Father’s right hand

Making intercession.

O! What a blessing! Amen!

“And I am convinced that nothing can

Ever separate us from his love….”

The Trying of Your Faith

The substance of things

You hope for is faith,

But you can’t see it;

You’ve never seen it.

It doesn’t work that way,

But you know it when you have it.

You ask for it when you pray.

You may ask the Lord to increase

Your faith day by day.

Faith increases patience.

Sometimes you have to wait;

You may be waiting for days,

Or weeks, or months, or years.

It will come, but when it does,

You may shed some tears.

Happiness or sadness or both

May accompany your faith.

Salvation is by grace through faith.

The trying of your faith

May be a difficult struggle.

Remember biblical Job;

He lost everything but his faith.

Sometimes trouble comes double;

Sometimes you may feel like

You’re in a dense jungle,

And there is no way out;

That’s the trying of your faith.

Have You Caught Any Fish?

Seven disciples went fishing,
But they caught nothing all night.
At dawn on the shore
They saw a little light.
There was a campsite.
Jesus was standing there,
But they knew him not.
Jesus spoke, “Friends,
Have you caught any fish?”
They said, “No, not one bite.”
They felt as if they
Had been in a fight
With the Sea of Galilee.
Jesus shouted to them;
“Throw your net to the right
Side of the boat!”
They did as he said,
But they could not
Pull in the net
Because they caught
So many fish.
When Peter recognized Jesus,
He jumped in the sea,
And he swam to his Savior.
That’s where he needed to be.
The disciples had caught
One hundred fifty-three,
And the net had not torn.
As the disciples sat
By the fire to get warm,
Jesus served them breakfast.
They felt refreshed.
O! What joy they expressed!

January 23, 2020

“So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net
to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet
the net hadn’t torn.” John 21:11 (NLT)

The Power of an Endless Life

Having no beginning or ending,
Jesus maintains the power
Of an endless life.
He is dateless, limitless,
Continual and eternal.

What can his endless life do?
It gives men infinity
By the ability of the Trinity.
If men only believe,
They shall receive.

Carnal man transformed
Becomes a child with
An unending life.
Peering into the night,
He allows Christ
To provide,
To produce,
To preserve
A path new.
Walking through
This sinful world
In celestial shoes,
He desires a
Heavenly view.

“Who is made, not after the law of a carnal
commandment but after the power of an endless life.”
Hebrews 7:16 (KJV)

In Him Is No Darkness

The darkness of Egypt land
Was felt for three days.
This was by God’s hand;
The Egyptians became His prey.

The harshness of God’s judgment
Is not heartless.
His will calls for an adjustment,
A looking of inwardness,
No overlooking of sin.

Darkness tarnishes the soul;
It is a weakening of faithful alertness.
It is like an armless man trying to swim;
His situation is truly grim.

A taste of God’s grace
Deteriorates man’s iniquities
For an eternity.
It decorates God’s majesty.

Light is God’s message,
The epitome of His substance.
His divine unpretentiousness
Can flood a man’s essence
Causing a shifting, a reshaping,
A rewriting of man’s mind.

The constancy of God’s luminosity
Destroys the heaviness of darkness.
A new vividness arises
Causing a transforming.

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare
unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

In Exchange for My Soul

I must deny myself.
I must take up my cross
And follow Jesus.
To Him how much did it cost?
For words I am lost.

What can I give in
Exchange for my soul?
Do you know?
Only Christ can make a man whole.
He is my integral part;
His Spirit lives in my heart.

Christ’s embrace is overarching;
His truth is fundamental;
Christ’s love is all encompassing.

I must deny myself.
How long will His love last?
Will it ever pass?

Christ’s hold on me is strong.
He is powerful and potent.
Christ is substantial and unassailable.

What can I give in
Exchange for my soul?
Do you know?

My Spirit within You

Since you are a believer,
My Spirit is within you.
I want you to be a receiver
Of untold gifts.

My Spirit within you
Will guide you along
Life’s narrow road.
As my grace continues to flow,
I want you to walk in my mode.

Keep your feet going
Where they should.
Remember, I died on a
Cross I made of wood.
Don’t be as some are;
They have a heart of wormwood.
It is coarse and withered.
Their thoughts are bitter.

My desire is that you
Will pursue me and worship.
Your soul I blood purchased.
Keep my judgments.

Within you my Spirit
Shines an appearance
Of light that dispels the night.
My love for you has no limits;
I am with you every day
And every minute.

“And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk
in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

God Sent His Son

Jesus had to be sacrificed
So men can live.

Jesus had to be crucified
So God can forgive.

God loved men before men loved Him.
He knew life for mankind was grim.

God sent His Son to be light;
Otherwise, men would live in night.

God’s love was present
Before men were created.

God’s love was given
Before Jesus left heaven.

The Son came to a manger
To save men from ageless danger.

The cross was soon made
From which Jesus prayed.

‘Father, forgive them;
Please do not condemn.’

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us,
and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

See Me

Do you see the stable?
You know; my life on earth
Was not a fable.
Do you ask my blessing
At the dinner table?
See me.

Do you see the shepherds?
Never let your thoughts
Of me be severed.
I like to be remembered.
A lot of storms I’ve weathered.
See me.

Do you see the star?
Have you ever seen an earthstar?
Do you see what’s in
The Christmas cookie jar?
My love is a giant reservoir.
See me.

Do you see the manger?
When you get to know me
You’re no longer a stranger.
I’m a soul changer.
Don’t go to sleep with your anger.
See me.

Do you see the angels?
They can keep your foot from danger.
They are fighting evil spirits;
They are strong and able.
Angels are faithful.
See me.

What Is in Your Heart?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of love
For men and God above?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of compassion
That is visible by your actions?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of earthly treasure
Used for your own pleasure?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of evil
Towards the feeble?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of kindness
For those in a crisis?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of faith
In the God who creates?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of wickedness
That destroys your happiness?

What is in your heart?
Is it full of regrets
More or less?

Tender Mercy

Of Jesus’ love I am not worthy,
But He is full of tender mercy.

When situations invite worry,
I recall Jesus’ tender mercy.

Jesus is a God of compassion;
He gives believers perfect mansions.

Tender mercy is a divine gift;
It gives my soul a fabulous lift.

The Savior has helped me avoid sin;
I need His strength each day to begin.

To avert sinful controversy
I must trust in His tender mercy.

Satan can make my life view blurry,
But I see well in the Lord’s mercy.

The Lord God is very pitiful;
His goodwill makes me presentable.

God’s tender mercy is so gracious;
My trust in Him is quite tenacious.

God’s loving compassionate blessings
Help me to continue progressing.

The Master’s everlasting mercy
Has wonderfully made me worthy.

Tender mercies are all around me;
I feel His Spirit deep within me.

Naked and Empty-handed

When you were born
Did you own anything?
Did you have something?

You were born naked and empty-handed.
That is the way God wants it to be.
You see, He wants us to depend on him
Like Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem,
Like the woman who touched His hem,
Like Jesus did when he was on the cross
And the sky grew dark and dim.

Life gets laborious and serious;
We will have conflicts and predicaments.
We came with nothing;
We leave with nothing.

Accept this and don’t fuss;
We can’t take our riches with us.

However, if you are a believer
The Holy Spirit lives inside you.
He’s there to guide you over Jordan
Because your sins have been pardoned.

November 21, 2019

“We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed
as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.”

Change the Way You Think

Change the way you think;
Don’t let Satan hoodwink
You into believing his lies.
They can sound very true,
But all they do is make you blue.

God wants to transform you into a new person;
Allow Him to lead you through life’s storms.
If you do, blessings will surround you in swarms.

Change the way you think
By letting God write on your heart
With His indelible ink.

One way to know God’s will
Is to be thankful and be still.
Listen to the changes He wants you to make;
Inside your soul you may feel an earthquake.

Change the way you think;
The Lord will supply the missing link.
Find the path that takes you home;
Don’t strikeout on your own.

Permit God to teach you His plans;
Hold on to His loving hands.
God’s way of doing things is perfect.
Your life is God’s project;
Give Him your heart;
You’ll know what to expect.

Stumbling Around in Grace

When I fall, when I falter, I find
Myself stumbling around in grace,
And I return to your altar
Seeking your face.

Because of myself
I have plummeted very low
Not knowing which way to go,
But your grace invisibly surrounds me
Until I almost can see it
When I am on my knees.

Your redeeming, exquisite grace
Is always sufficient for me.
When I look, it becomes infinitely clear
It comes to my rescue year after year.

Because of my eternal state of favor,
I know I should never waiver,
Yet I do, and I feel like a traitor.
When I find myself stumbling
Around in grace, I detect your embrace.

Life is all about grace;
It is where I discover
My soulful encounter.
It is where I find
My soul’s birthplace.

How blessed I am when I am
Stumbling around in grace.
It is my safety net;
You have paid my debt.

it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

God Never Slumbers or Sleeps

God never slumbers or sleeps;
He is the One that we need to seek.
His eyes never close;
All about us He knows.

When a believer sleeps,
He should rarely count sheep.
Instead, his Father’s blessings
He ought to tally and keep.

A Christian can take comfort
In numbering God’s wonders.
Jesus never makes a blunder;
He created thunder.

Sometimes, I consider the stars
While I lay under the sky.
Cloud clusters appear to be God’s arms,
As I drift off to sleep with a sigh.

In this world that is chaotic,
God is observing you and me.
As I dwell on His logic,
It escapes me like waves of the sea.

Before going to sleep,
I thank God for making me His son.
I know when I’m on my knees,
My flaws are hidden by His blood.

 Jesus died to apply His mercy
To this dying domain that is topsy-turvy.
Of God’s grace we’re not worthy.
His cross was his longest journey.
